The med is the sunniest choice!

And as for the rain: Since 1977 it hasn't been this wet! France as well as the rest of Europe has been plagued with heavy clouds and showers. In the North of France fell 165 mm rain, three times more than normal! In Paris, Poitiers, Orléans and Caen July had 22 rainy days! As a small comfort, they remark that the level of ground water is better now, after years of being too low.
And over here, in the Med and the Provence? Beautiful! Bit dry maybe (the trees are wistling for the dogs) (It was so hot that We went for coffee to pour on our laps – just to cool off!) but terrific summer weather... If you're looking for a place to live, buy a house in my neighbourhood: the Riviera!!

Météo France heeft aangekondigd dat de zomer van 2007 verpest is... Sinds 1980 is het nog niet zo koud geweest in juli en augustus (behalve in 2000). En wat de regen betreft: Sinds 1977 is het niet meer zo nat geweest! Frankrijk - en de rest van Europa- is geplaagd door zware bewolking en buien. In Noord-Frankrijk viel 165 mm regen, drie keer zoveel als normaal! In Parijs, Poitiers, Orléans an Caen had juli 22 regendagen! Een troost is dat het grondwaterpeil weer wat omhoog is gegaan na vele jaren veel te laag te zijn geweest.
En hier, in het Middellandse Zee gebied en de Provence? Prachtig! Beetje droog misschien (de bomen fluiten naar de honden) (het was zo heet dat we koffie gingen halen om over onszelf heen te gooien om af te koelen) maar prachtig zomerweer... Dus als je een fijne plek zoekt om te wonen, koop een huis in mijn buurt: de Riviera!!

As I am entering my fourth internet-less week, I have much more time left to paint! Riviera Home Finders are still selling houses, here's another one... Aangezien ik alweer de vierde internet-loze week inga, heb ik een stuk meer tijd om te schilderen! En bij Riviera Home Finders gaat de verkoop gewoon door, dit was er weer zo eentje....

August in The South of France

"Madame, you moved to another house, in another village and you need internet to do your work, but look here: You live in France, right? To be more specific, in the SOUTH of France, correct? and we are in the month of August.... when France is on holiday!! Please don't be surprised that you still have no ADSL although you ordered it two weeks ago - relax, take it easy, enjoy the sun and the sea and give it a rest" Wise words spoken by the realistic bloke from France telecom!! And the main reason why I have not posted anything for 2 weeks - although a lot has happened. I am now on (but mostly off) somebody else's network ("très faible" it says) and will be back to you as soon as France Telecom finds the time to connect me again. In the mean time I make do with a great new home, the very very best weather in Europe, friends visiting, parties, shopping and having long lunches (and dinners) outside. Sigh!! But somebody has to do it, right...

"Madame, u bent verhuisd, naar een ander dorp nota bene en ik begrijp dat u internet nodig heeft voor uw werk, maar bekijk het eens van onze kant: U woont in Frankrijk, in Zuid Frankrijk zelfs, en het is Augustus... Heel Frankrijk is op vakantie!! Wees nou niet verbaasd dat u nog geen ADSL heeft terwijl dat 2 weken geleden besteld is - relax, neem het ervan, geniet van de zon en de zee en kijk het even aan" Deze wijze woorden kwamen van een realistische pief van France Telecom. En het is de belangrijkste reden waarom ik 2 weken niks gepost heb - hoewel er een heleboel gebeurd is. Ik zit nu op (maar meestal lig ik eruit) een onbeveiligd netwerk van een buur, de verbinding is "très faible" en ik kom weer helemaal terug als France Telecom me aansluit. In de tussentijd zal ik me moeten behelpen met een fantastisch nieuw huis, het aller- allerbeste weer in Europa, vrienden, feesten, shoppen en lange lunches (en diners) buiten. Zucht!! Maar iemand moet het doen. Toch?!
